The Martapura is a river in south Kalimantan (Borneo). At the riverbanks you’ll find a lot of activity and almost everywhere houses and families living in it. The wooden houses are built on wooden poles that stand inside the river. The circumstances for the residents are not good. While some of them have electricity, most of them even don’t have fresh water. Therefor the laundry, bathing and toileting have been done in the river. The river itself is known to be extremely polluted from many organic sources such as leaves, plankton, industrial waste and sewage. Also there is polution from mud, clay, metal oxides, algae, bacteria and fungi.
